Signup codes
A signup code lets one person create a community while sign-up is invite-only. Signup codes is where the operator and platform admins mint, list and revoke them (capability: operations).
How signup works
Who may create a community is a platform-wide mode. The page header shows the current mode.
| Mode | What happens |
|---|---|
| invite | Creating a community needs a valid signup code, unless the account is the operator. This is the current mode. |
| open | Anyone with a verified login can create a community (up to 3 per account). |
| off | The create-community screens do not exist; nobody can sign up. |
Codes can be minted in any mode, so they can be ready before sign-up opens. In every mode the same safeguards apply: a verified login (a Steam login counts), accepted terms, at most 5 creations per network address per day and a platform-wide daily limit.
Mint a code
- Click New code.
- Fill the form:
| Field | Detail |
|---|---|
| Note (who is it for?) | Up to 200 characters. Only staff see it. |
| Uses | 1 to 1,000; default 1. |
| Expires after (days, empty = never) | 1 to 365. |
- Click Create code. The code appears once, in the format
RT-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX: Copy code and send it to the person. It is never shown again; the list only keeps the last four characters.
Codes use letters and digits without look-alikes (no 0, O, 1, I). A person may type it with or without the RT- prefix and dashes.
The list
Each row shows RT-····-····-XXXX, a status chip, "N of M used", the note and the expiry date.
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
| active | Can still be used. |
| used | All uses taken. |
| expired | Past its expiry date. |
| revoked | Revoked by staff. |
Revoke (active codes only) stops a code at once. Codes already used keep the community they created.
What the person sees
On the panel they sign in with Steam, then Create community: name, address, billing email, the code (step "Invite code"), and the terms. See Getting started. A wrong, used, expired or revoked code answers "This invite code is not valid"; the use is only consumed when the community is actually created.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| "This invite code is not valid" | Check the status in the list; mint a new code. |
| "You can own up to 3 communities" | The per-account limit is reached; ask the operator to raise it. |
| "Too many attempts" | Creations are limited per network address per day; try later. |
