Settings
Settings are values that change how the platform behaves for your community and servers. They follow an inheritance chain: RustyThrones' default, then your community, then each server. You edit the community level in Community settings and the server level in a server's Settings tab.
Reading needs the Viewer role; writing the community level needs settings.tenant (Admin), writing a server level needs servers.configure (Admin). Viewers see a View only label.
The editor
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Search box | Filters settings by name. |
| Show filter | All, or only your own changes: Set by community (community page) / Customized (server page). |
| Show advanced | Reveals advanced settings. |
| Group list | Wipes, Broadcasts, Game, Plugins, Advanced, with counts. |
| Legend | A dot marks a value you set ("Set for your community" / "Customized for this server") versus an inherited one ("RustyThrones default" / "Follows community"). |
| Revert | Use default (community page) or Use community value (server page) removes your value so the level above applies again. Setting a value back to the inherited one does the same. |
| Lock toggle | Servers can't change this (community page): pins the value for all servers. Needs the plan feature Settings locks. |
| Save bar | "N changes", Discard, Save. Several changes are validated together; if one is invalid nothing is saved. |
Each row shows the inheritance line, for example "Follows community: On" or "Locked by RustyThrones: On". On the community page, a row can show "Overridden on N servers" with a list of those servers and Clear overrides to remove every server-level value of that setting.
Available settings
| Setting | Group | Default | Levels |
|---|---|---|---|
Update Rust automatically (game.autoUpdate): installs new Rust builds while the server is empty | Game | On | Platform, community, server (lockable) |
| Community name in game: brand shown in in-game announcements, e.g. referral broadcasts | Broadcasts | RustyThrones | Platform, community |
| Website shown in broadcasts: site name in scheduled broadcasts | Broadcasts | play.rustythrones.com | all (lockable) |
| Always-owner SteamIDs: players who get owner on every server of the community, one 17-digit Steam ID per line (advanced) | Game | none | Platform, community (lockable) |
| Public website URL: where payments and the billing portal send players back (advanced). Empty = the platform site | Advanced | empty | Platform, community |
| Canary server for plugin rollouts: server that receives plugin changes first; empty picks your website server (advanced) | Plugins | empty | Platform, community |
| Canary soak time: minutes the canary must stay healthy before other servers get the plugin (0 to 1440) | Plugins | 30 | Platform, community |
| Wipe cleanup steps (17) | Wipes | all on | all (lockable): see Wipe cleanup |
| Per-plugin config layers | Plugins | empty | Community (lockable): edited in Plugins |
Platform-only settings (image names, outbound IPs, ...) are never shown to communities.
Examples
- Make every server keep tech tree unlocks across full wipes: Community settings > Wipes, switch Reset tech tree off in the Full wipe column.
- Stop automatic game updates on one server only: that server's Settings > Game, switch Update Rust automatically off. It shows Customized.
- Force all servers to follow one value: edit it on the community page and use the lock toggle.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Field is greyed with "Locked by ..." | A higher level pinned it. Ask that level's owner. |
| Lock toggle missing | Your plan does not include Settings locks (Plan and billing). |
| "Validation failed" | One of the values is out of range; the row shows the reason, nothing was saved. |
