Wipes and schedules
Wipes reset a server's world. RustyThrones runs them from schedules you define, or on demand with Wipe now. Wipes and schedules need a hosted server and the servers.configure permission (running one needs wipe.run).
Wipe types
| Type | What it does | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Map wipe | New map. Blueprints and player progress stay. | Frequent resets between force wipes. |
| Full wipe | New map and a reset of blueprints and player progress. | Fresh starts. |
| Force wipe | Rust's monthly update day: the game updates and a full wipe runs in place. | Once a month. |
The effects of each are listed in Wipe cleanup.
Force wipe
Every server has a built-in Monthly Force Wipe that is always on: Monthly, Full Wipe, Thursday (1st) at 18:00 UTC. The server is prepared 10 minutes early so it is back at the wipe hour. The row shows your local time. Under Future Planning (Next 3 Force) you can set the map for each coming force wipe (seed mode, below).
Custom schedules
Add Schedule creates one:
| Field | Options |
|---|---|
| Name | Free text. |
| Enabled | On or off. |
| Action Type | Wipe, Update (game update), Restart. |
| Schedule Type | Daily, Weekly, Bi-Weekly, Monthly, Custom (cron). |
| Wipe Type | Map Wipe or Full Wipe (wipe actions). |
| Default Seed Mode | See below (wipe actions). |
| Day of Week / Day of Month | For weekly, bi-weekly and monthly schedules. |
| Time (HH:MM UTC) | All times are UTC; the local time is shown next to it. |
| Cron Expression (UTC) | For custom schedules, for example 0 4 * * *. |
A wipe schedule that falls on the same moment as a force wipe is shown as Skipped - Overlaps with Force Wipe.
Views: Grid, Timeline (list of upcoming occurrences, next 3 months) and Calendar. Click an occurrence to see or edit its seed. Click Save changes to apply; leaving with unsaved changes asks for confirmation ("Unsaved changes (N)").
Seed modes
Each wipe schedule has a default; each coming occurrence ("Future Planning (Next 5)") can override it (marked override).
| Mode | Behaviour |
|---|---|
| Keep Same | The new map is the current one (or the previous occurrence's). |
| Random | A random map generated at wipe time. |
| History | A map from the Map vault: Pick from History. |
| Custom | You give Seed, World Size and optionally a thumbnail or video (512 x 512 px .jpg or .webm recommended). |
| Map Vote | Players vote on Discord between up to 4 prepared maps. |
Map vote
- Set the occurrence to Map Vote and click Edit Vote Options. Provide 2 to 4 maps (seed and size each, or Pick from Vault). Identical maps are refused ("Vote options cannot contain identical maps").
- In the server's Discord tab switch on Map Voting and set Map Voting Timing: open N hours before the wipe (default 24) and close M hours before (default 1).
- The vote opens on its own in the community's vote channel, once per wipe. Trigger Vote opens it now and Stop Vote closes it early (an early close stays closed). The map with the most votes becomes the next map.
A vote only opens when the occurrence has at least 2 seeded options. Needs Discord connected.
Wipe announcements
In the server's Discord tab: Wipe Announcements (countdowns, "wipe live", "server back online") with Countdown Reminders at 24h, 12h, 6h, 2h, 1h and 30m (at least one), and the Population Bot (live player count status, needs its own bot token).
Sequence of a wipe
- The schedule fires and a wipe job is queued.
- The agent runs a 9 to 1 second in-game countdown and wipes.
- The server status shows Wiping; afterwards it restarts and the cleanup steps run (see Wipe cleanup), then plugins are reconciled.
- The website marks the wipe: kits, bundles and research reset as configured, and players see it in Live activity.
Missed runs: if the scheduler was down at the exact time, due wipes are recovered when it starts again.
Troubleshooting
| Problem | Fix |
|---|---|
| Schedules page is locked | Attached servers cannot be wiped by RustyThrones. |
| Vote did not open | Fewer than 2 seeds set, Discord not connected, channel for Map votes not set, or the window already passed. |
| Wipe time looks off | Times are UTC; the page shows your local time beside each. |
